In the 1950´s Hollywood films declined, interests shifted to social situations or family-oriented comedies. In the 1960´s star-packed comedies increased in nomber. Woody Allen and Mel Brooks were leading figures. In the 1980´s Hollywood comedy movies came like Airplane, Top Secret and the Naked Gun. Popular comedians of that time included Dudley Moore, Tom Hanks, Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. The most popular Hollywood comedy movies were of John Hughes, which included Ferris Bueller's Day Off and the Home Alone series of 1990s. Another development in Hollywood comedy movies was the use of gross humor, it was for younger audience. Including films like: There's Something about Mary, American Pie and many more. This is how comedy movies started, how they evolved and how they are right now.
Comedy movies have always been a favorite for the Indian audience and Punjabi comedy movies are certainly the best ones among all. Raw Punjabi accent paired up with typical desi jokes are always a hit and Punjabi comedy movies implement this very concept resulting in success.
